Description: Gemini Bistro is a stylish, inviting bistro that offers contemporary American cuisine with French and Mediterranean influences. Executive Chef Jason Paskewitz and the husband and wife team of Ryan and Anna O'Donnell are at the helm of the acclaimed neighborhood restaurant, named one of Chicago Magazine's "Best New Restaurants" of 2009 and awarded 3 Stars from Chicago Tribune food critic Phil Vettel.
Located in a classic flatiron building built in 1919, the surroundings offer a warm and relaxing environment with dark hardwood floors, tweed and leather booths, oversized drum lighting and turn-of-the-century reproduction Edison bulbs. The dining room seats 86 for dinner and the full-service, white marble bar seats 14, making it the perfect place to relax, nosh on a variety of menu items or simply sip a signature cocktail (try "The Squirtsky") or glass of wine from the approachable and diverse wine list.

""An elegant Bistro""

  • Food: old school comfort food with a twist
  • Decor: clubby, sophisticated and comfortable
  • Service:
  • Cost: $$$
  • Wine / Cocktails: great cocktails

Overview:

I debated between recommending this place or actually calling it a favorite. I opted for the later for several reasons. The atmosphere is tasteful and clubby with a few wonderful comfy booths and well spaced tables. What sets it apart for me is that besides the delicious food (getting to that), it is not easy to create a vibe that is sophisticated, upscale and yet, comfy and allows for easy converstation. The menu is also affordable, with most entrees under $25. The majority of the menu consists of some old school favorites like rack of lamb and raosted salmon, but all kicked up a notch with an unexpected twist. My "favorite" is the Whole roasted organic chicken with mashed potatoes (though, I would substitute for the great fries). The dish must be ordered for 2 (or 3), but don't even think that this is some boring chicken. The skin is crispy and there is a little sweet glaze to it that is just divine. To get roasted chicken this yummy deserves attention.
