Overview:

I have been very excited about Cru coming back. We started with the Chef's board charcuterie with the soppresatta, robiola with peach jam, and the smoked whitefish. As soon as they brought this dish out, I knew I shouldn't eat as much as I did but it was so good. I had a really hard time deciding what to order. Going in I was sure I would order the Tuna Nicoise salad, I had this at the previous Cru and it is the only salad (possibly ever) that I would crave. I don't usually order a salad for the main course! But - I changed my mind on what to order when I heard about the creamed corn with the salmon.

I think this is a great addition to the neighborhood. Not only was the food great but the wine selection and cocktails were fun and interesting. The space itself was simple but had some really charming pieces like the tiled ceilings and chandeliers.

Even though the salmon was great, I have a list of dishes I couldn't decide between tonight so I will be back to find my favorite. Also - the Pimm's cup drink was amazing. I highly recommmend it.

We had a preview of the fried zucchini and morel mushrooms so if you get a chance to try those, I would check them out.

Overview:

We thought it was only right to start out our meal at a wine bar with a cheese plate. We tried a 3 cheese combo plate with Bleu des Basques, Mahon, and Pierre Robert cheese. The Mahon was a very mild, white cheese and I thought the fruit jam overwhelmed it a tad. On the other hand the bleu was much more potent and served with a tangy orange marmalade. The Pierre Robert was definitely my favorite on the plate. It was spreadable, very creamy and paired with grilled peppers and lettuce. We also gave the Cobia Crudo a try and it was absolutely delicious. The artichokes were tempura to perfection with a very light batter. The combination of artichokes, crudo and pickled mushrooms was perfect. The dish had a lime drizzle in the mayonnaise topping which was a little tart and very creamy. It was such a great appetizer and was a great twist on sushi.

My dad had the Wild Salmon which he said was pretty good. It was served with creamed corn and sweet potato taters. The corn was very tasty but overwhelmed the fish somewhat. If you were looking for a more salmon-centric, it may not be your favorite interpretation of salmon, but the dish as a whole was tasty. I decided to try the Duck Breast which was amazing! The peppery marinade on the grilled broccoli was fantastic and the duck was incredibly tender. If you get the duck breast, and you definitely should, you have to make sure to eat all three, the broccoli, bread pudding and duck, at one time as the flavors all together are amazing.

For dessert we tried the Strawberry Shortcake and the Coffee Brownie. The shortcake was a great summer treat. The fruit was very fresh and the strawberry glaze was so sweet. While shortcake is usually soft and spongy like angel food cake, Cru's was more similar to a biscuit and the dish reminded me of toast with a very sweet strawberry jam. The brownie was a more typical, sweet tooth dessert. The brownie was very soft with some crumbles and the coffee ice cream was great!

Recommended Dishes:

Duck Breast, Strawberry Shortcake, Coffee Brownie, Cobia Crudo
